Ms. Sommersell is a WMPC Care Coordinator with more than three years of experience at the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) as a Protective Services Specialist and as a Centralized Intake Worker. Prior to working in child welfare, Ms.Sommersell served as an Operations Coordinator at LincUp, and her responsibilities included nonprofit and other programmatic compliance as well as ensuring data quality and integrity with LincUp’s data management systems.
WMPC’s commitment to advancing racial equity in the child welfare system is part of what attracted Ms. Sommersell to the role. Ms. Sommersell saw first-hand the impact of systemic racism on community development during her four years at LincUp, a community development organization that engages in neighborhood revitalization through partnership to create affordable housing opportunities. Affordable housing is a key issue for families served by WMPC and its partners.
Ms. Sommersell has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Social Work from Western Michigan University.
