Parent Engagement Manager (She/Her/Hers)
JeRae’ joined WMPC in 2019 and previously served as a Care Coordinator, providing support and consultation to the private foster care agencies and the children and families they serve. Prior to her time at WMPC, JeRae’ worked within the Child Protective Services unit at the Department of Health and Human Services, and also served as Operations Coordinator at LINC Up in Grand Rapids for four years.
WMPC’s commitment to advancing racial equity in the child welfare system is part of what attracted Ms. Sommersell to WMPC. Ms. Sommersell saw first-hand the impact of systemic racism on community development during her four years at LincUp, a community development organization that engages in neighborhood revitalization through partnership to create affordable housing opportunities. Affordable housing is a key issue for families served by WMPC and its partners.
She received her master’s degree in social work from Western Michigan University in 2016. JeRae’ also serves as the co-chair of WMPC’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.
